Dianna AmordeHow do you know what the right decision is for you at any given time? Life coach Dianna Amorde taught the group at Careers Over Coffee North on December 11, 2015 how to use our intuition to strengthen our decision-making skills.

How many times have you wished that you had a map to help you make decisions? Michael McMillian said, “While maps can be helpful, they can also be detrimental to creative thinking. If you follow them too closely, you can miss information not seen or understood by the map’s creator.”

Why Using Only Your Left-Brain Doesn’t Work

A lot of us tend to use our left-brain to figure things out, but Dianna explained that is not where our brilliance lies. When we use our left-brain we can only focus on what’s in front us and can’t consider something new.

How Do We Tap In To Our Intuition?

Aha! moments show up when our intuitive information comes in so powerfully it “collides” with our intellect. We often physically feel this collision in the form of goose bumps, chills down our spine, or warmth in our heart or gut. We find our intuition when we embrace our intuitive right-brain gifts. Dianna gave many examples of how to do this:

  • Use self-care and listen to your body.
  • Try something new and uncomfortable.
  • Start by saying yes to you and your needs. The empowerment will lead to inspiration.
  • Remove the barriers by allowing yourself permission to open your heart and be present.
  • Set aside a bit of quiet time to actively “listen” for the answer.

Balancing Right and Left-Brain

But how do we balance listening to our gut with using our left-brain? Dianna encouraged us to honor our intuitive knowing first and engage our critical thinking skills second. If you allow yourself to do what your heart wants to do first (or set some time aside to do so) then you can get the practical stuff done and you will be more creative and successful in your work.

Thank you to Dianna for sharing her insight and expertise on a fun topic! Dianna answered our questions and encouraged us to trust ourselves. Thank you to a great group of attendees who shared their aha-inspiring experiences and contributed to our thought-provoking discussion.
