Philanthropy

WCA supports Central Texas college students, communications professionals, and non-profits through its philanthropic efforts.

Our philanthropic programs are made possible through donations, $5 from each member’s annual dues, and other fundraising events and activities.

Scholarships: How We Support Central Texas Students

Each year, we award two $5,000 scholarships to graduate or undergraduate students studying communications:

  • Jo Caldwell Meyer Merit-Based Scholarship
  • Julie Tereshchuk Need-Based Scholarship

Since 1989, WCA has awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships to students at Central Texas colleges and universities.

In addition, we offer reduced student registration fees and scholarships for attendance at Get Smart, our annual conference for communications professionals.

Professional Development: How We Support Communications Professionals

WCA offers professional development opportunities throughout the year and subsidizes registration fees for anyone who cannot pay the full amount.

CommSquad: How We Support Non-Profits

As part of our CommSquad program, WCA created a series of communications-focused webinars for nonprofit leaders:

  • Four Pillars of Creating a Communications Plan
  • Helping Nonprofits Find and Differentiate Their Brand Voice
  • The 8 Pillars of Public Relations for Nonprofit Organizations
  • Developing a DEI Plan for Nonprofits

In past years, WCA members also worked as a CommSquad with Austin non-profits to solve their communications challenges through in-person events and online support. WCA members and volunteers shared their time and expertise with non-profit organizations, offering resources that may not otherwise have been available. Past CommSquad community partners include Girlstart, Austin Pets Alive!, and Upper Ninety
