Mass Communication in Electronic Media

Jasmine Kardanimoghaddam (Kardani) is in her second year at Texas State University. Balancing her time between her major, minor, work and the WCA is tricky but she enjoys the challenge. An enthusiastic and talented communicator, Jasmine has her long term sights set on Austin.

Growing up in Spring, Texas, just north of Houston, Jasmine always had a knack for communication. A self described tomboy, she grew up with two brothers and family ties to Iran and Mexico. In high school she found a passion for theater, lending her contribution as treasurer, stage manager, and president of theater in plays including Wizard of Oz and Legally Blonde The Musical. She won a scholarship from the theater booster club (on which they could not fit her last name) which further inspired her to peruse communication as a degree at the university level.

Majoring in Mass Communication in Electronic Media, with a minor in Communication Studies at Texas State University, Jasmine maintains a full workload. She is also the social media contributor and promotions assistant for KTSW 89.9. Since being eligible to vote, she has had a strong interest in politics- part of what makes Austin attractive. “There is just something about Austin” she says. The combination of the culture, the music, the “weird,” she is actively working to live in Texas’ booming capital.

During the annual Texas State University Boko’s Block Party the university showcases events and groups for students to join. It was here where Jasmine discovered the WCA chapter at Texas State University two years ago. With some helpful nudging from her mother, she quickly found the WCA was exactly the kind of professional organization she needed and enjoyed being a part of, diving in head first as chapter treasurer. “It is the perfect balance between professional and fun.” She explains.

After Jasmine completes her bachelor’s degree in 2016, she plans to get into broadcast journalism, working behind the scenes at studios in Austin. Additionally she will continue her education at the University of Texas in Austin by pursuing a masters in Screenwriting. Always moving forward and tackling new projects, Jasmine is only just starting to make her mark in the world.
