students1 Welcome Back to School!

Welcome University of Texas (UT) and Texas State University (TX State) students back to student life and WCA student group meetings! As WCA’s new VP of Student Affairs, I look forward to meeting each of you at upcoming events. Note to Professional Members: If you are interested in speaking to students about your field or moderating a topic at a College over Coffee, feel free to contact me.

Student News: We learned this spring that students at UT and TX State voted to move forward as WCA student groups. Earlier this spring, we welcomed WCA UT. In August, students at TX State submitted an application for official status as WCA Texas State on campus. Welcome WCA UT and TX State!

Reserve October Dates x 2: While you settle into your fall routines, attend your WCA monthly meetings, and meet up at College Over Coffee, WCA Central is planning two not-to-miss October events: the annual Get Smart Conference and Speed Mentoring. Stay tuned for details about our conference, scheduled for Friday afternoon, October 17, 2014 at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus. This year’s theme is The Power of Your Voice / The Power of Your Message.

Speed Mentoring Is Back: Always an interactive and energizing event, WCA’s Fall 2014 Speed Mentoring morning returns on Saturday, October 25, 2014, from 10:30am-12:30pm, complete with breakfast tacos! WCA professional and student members are invited to attend. Join in the fun: The University of Austin, CBA (Business School) 4.348. Register by 4 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2014.

Congrats, Student Graduates! As recent student graduates, you have resources through WCA—and we look forward to connecting with you each month. We’ll look for you at WCA’s Careers Over Coffee, Careers Over Cocktails, Freelance Austin, monthly luncheons, and in our e-Mentoring program.

Students and Grads, Keep in Touch! Log in regularly to peruse internship and job postings. Check out our Ask a Mentor page. WCA has dozens of internal volunteer positions that can offer you communication experience and keep your resume current.

WCA cares about its student and recent graduate members. We’re a friendly bunch, understand what you’re going through, and are here for you. Make yourself known. Attend as many events as you can. Reach out to us. I promise we’ll reach back.

Enjoy a productive and healthy fall semester!
