We all experience it, but what do we do about it? As communicators, we need to slow down in order to be good observers of our world. While friends and family rush about, we stand back, try to take it all in and report back in our stories. But when our minds are filled with To-Do lists and internet chatter, how do we unplug and get our creative juices flowing?
Dr. Saundra Goldberg, author of Writing Down the Bones calls it, “the true secret of writing” — the combined structure of meditation and writing practice. She discussed how to get past blocks and procrastination, jump into your writing and learn prompts and exercises that shake your mind and access your heart. Come with an open heart and mind and questions for our facilitator!
Dr. Goldman brings years of experience in writing practice, including intensive study with Natalie Goldberg. She currently serves as Goldberg’s assistant for her intensive course at the Mabel Dodge Luhan House in Taos, New Mexico. She is the author of In Process: Thoughts on Writing and Life, the newsletter for her coaching business, In Process Writing.
Saundra’s short stories and essays have been published in The Rambler, Amoskeag, babble.com and Austin Woman. Her articles and art reviews have appeared in Art News, New Art Examiner, Art Papers, Theater and Drama Review and the Texas Observer. She has also served as art critic for the Austin American-Statesman and the Austin Chronicle. She is currently at work on a book about the feminist sculptor and performance artist Hannah Wilke.
