John GarrettThe newspaper and print industry have been hit hard over the past few years, and even as there appears to be an end to the recession, questions still remain about the long-term viability of print journalism even after the ad dollars come back.

John Garrett publisher and founder of Community Impact Newspaper, explained why he believes the newspaper industry needs to get back to the basics of relevant content and strong distribution to have a chance to su:rvive at all-online or in print.

He is bucking the recent trend of “online first, print last” with a commitment to giving the print product the editorial resources and distribution necessary to compete and win in this fast-changing, competitive marketplace. John believes his team’s ability to compete in the highly sought after hyper-local news marketplace will require a strong print product. John will talk about how his team is approaching what he calls the “Burger King Mentality” of consumers wanting news “their way” and how he believes the newspaper industry should approach the future of news.
