Jenny Magic

The best way to learn is from others. That’s one of the favorite mantras of Jenny Magic, Principal and VP of Content Strategy at SiteGoals and speaker at this year’s Get Smart Conference on September 13.

As a VP at SiteGoals and owner of her previous company, Better Way to Say It, Jenny specializes in uncovering key messages in her clients’ works in order to create an integrated, adaptive content strategy that accelerates their businesses. Below is a quick sneak peak of some of the insights Jenny will share at Get Smart 2013 – “Fail Forward: How to Recover, Rebuild and Come Back Stronger.” Through four interactive breakout sessions and a keynote panel with some of Austin’s top business owners, Get Smart 2013 will explore how to break through the fear of failure that keeps us from innovating.

In her session “Failure is for winners – Success stories after bumps in the road,” Jenny will lead an interactive group discussion on how we can learn from each other’s bumps, battle scars, and lessons learned to turn our less-than-perfect life experiences into success.

WCA: Why are women so afraid of failure?

Jenny: The things that make us afraid of failure are often the same things keeping us from the big success. Being proud of being a “perfectionist”. Worrying about keeping up appearances. Feeling like an imposter even when we’ve earned the accolades. Stressing about the balance
between being aggressive and “feminine”. We will be hashing out these key themes and others in the session.

WCA: What are you most looking forward to by speaking at the Get Smart conference this year?

Jenny: Women Communicators of Austin has always been an amazing network of support for me. There aren’t many places we can be vulnerable – asking hard questions, and showing that we’re still learning – and WCA has always been one of those sacred places for me. I am looking
forward to sharing of our experiences in a supportive environment where we can truly learn from each other.

WCA: Who should attend your session?

Jenny: Anyone who’s ever failed, anyone who has held back because they were scared to fail, and brave women who have taken chances (and have the scars to prove it!). So basically everyone!

WCA: What is one thing you hope participants in your session will walk away with?

Jenny: That there is no such thing as failure. That the most successful entrepreneurs often cite a failure as a key turning point on the journey to success. That our perspective can change just by sharing a story. Instead of being afraid to fail, we should instead look at everything as a learning
experience — learning experiences we need in order to succeed. Fail forward!
