AWC Austin Member Spotlights have been a treasure trove of great advice and tidbits of knowledge thanks to the wonderful women in this organization. Sincere thanks to all that have given their time and insight in support of this feature series. Here is a smattering of special 2011 Member Spotlight moments and thoughts:

“What motivates me is the idea of something that is significant for everyone in their daily life.” – Emlea Chanslor, on her career working with government agencies

“In order to be successful, you’re going to make mistakes and have some failures.” – Christy Agness, on tackling new and unknown ventures

“Authentically be yourself.” – Julie Lara, on realizing that behavior is a source of communication

“There’s much more of an immediate sense to the news. At the same time, you have to be careful what you read. You cannot trust everything that is posted online, especially with health. You should always make sure it’s a reliable medical sight and not some crazy person peddling medical diagnosis from their basement.” – Michelle Chan Santos, on how blogging and social media have changed journalism

“The world is flattening and people are getting used to the idea of one person being able to handle things.” – Erica Hess, on why large firms are seeking out small companies

“The rest of the world might be six degrees of separation; in Austin, we’re two.” –Rosemary Hook, on what makes Austin unique

“Once you reduce it to the human element, even a complicated message can be relatable.” – Christine Cox, on connecting with a diverse audience

“The women of AWC Austin can help you realize how much innate potential you have to grow as a professional.” – Julie Hatfield, on the rewards of AWC Austin

“I think social media is a great tool for people, no matter what they’re going through, to find others with shared experiences and develop key relationships.” – Kate Voth, on how her battle with cancer has changed the way she communicates

“Ideas by themselves are no good. You have to be willing to get hands dirty, get in there, and get the work done.” – Christy Wylie, on her business mantra

“It will be 10 times harder than you thought. But, don’t you dare give up.” – Ellie Scarborough, on starting your own business

Member Spotlights speak to the endless talent and wisdom present in AWC Austin. So, as the new year greets us in just a few days, make it a point to reach out to someone new. Ask them a few questions about what they know, where they’re from, and how they found their way to this wonderful organization. You’ll be delighted and surprised at what you find.

Happy holidays to you and yours.
