The first time I met our September luncheon panelist Maura Thomas I asked for just one tidbit that would help me feel some sense of control over the chaos of my email inbox. She gave me a very easy and simple tip—turn off your push notification for arriving email on your smart phone.

WOW!

It was so easy to implement, I couldn’t believe it. No more distractions from the automatic notification telling me I had another email. By turning off those notifications it gave me more control and the ability to focus on the task at hand. That meeting was over four years ago and to this day I still tell her how much that one little change impacted my ability to focus. She helped increase my productivity at both work and home.

Just this past week, Maura published in her blog more tips on gaining control over your email in her post Review vs. Process vs. Do. Take a look and start attacking your inbox differently starting right now.

Maura advises, “My recommendation for managing email is to review as often as you feel is necessary, process to zero at least a couple of times per week, and do what needs doing at the appropriate time.” She goes on to say, “I can let days go by where I just skim my messages on my phone!” Is she serious? Aren’t you envious?

Do you need a little help with your own organization? The September luncheon featuring Maura Thomas will provide us with the techniques we need to maintain focus, even amid all the distractions. And, you’ll walk away with ideas to control your information and technology, so it doesn’t control you every day of the week.

Think about it, “It’s almost impossible to control your time (and there are only 24 hours in every day anyway) until you can control your attention!”

Are your wheels turning? Do you have a list of things you need to get organized? Sign up to attend the AWC Austin September luncheon where you are sure to walk away with a handful of tips to make your life a little bit more manageable.
