Several people have asked me how Freelance Austin ended up organizing and providing all of the speakers for the AWC National webinar series “Freelance February 2011.”

I blame Jane Baxter Lynn.

At the AWC annual conference in Seattle in 2009, she asked if I would participate in National’s newly-formed Tech committee, and I couldn’t say no.

Besides, my mother (an AWC Member Emeritus) was standing right there in the hotel lobby when Jane asked, and since we were sharing a hotel room I knew I’d never hear the end of it later that night if I refused… yay for moms! 🙂

That meant that I had a seat at the table when the idea arose to do a webinar series for current and aspiring freelancers – who better to make that work than Freelance Austin?

Fast forward to this month, and we are set to present this terrific program….see all of the webinars on the AWC Events page.

The schedule:

**  Tues, Feb 1 at 12 noon CST – “No, You May NOT Pick My Brain: Drawing the Line Between Free and Paid” with me as the speaker. I promise to only be mildly rant-y, unless I pour myself an extra mug of coffee. Free to AWC members, $39 for non-members.

**  Tues, Feb 8 at 12 noon CST – “From Cubicle to Coffee Shop or Kitchen: Creating a Successful Independent PR Business” with Christine Cox, Laura Bond Williams and Dana Marruffo. $39 for AWC members, $69 for non-members.

**  Tues, Feb 15 at 12 noon CST – “I’m With the Band: Getting In and Selling Your Work in Surprising Places” with Amy Lemen. $39 for AWC members, $69 for non-members.

**  Wed, Feb 23 at 12 noon CST – “Tips and Tools for Your Very Own Wildly Successful Freelance Business” with (original Freelance Austin founder) Patti DeNucci, Julie Tereshchuk and CJ Romberger. $39 for AWC members, $69 for non-members.

NOTE: You can get special savings of 20% off if you sign up for all three of the paid webinars.

What do you want to bet that this inspires other AWC chapters to create their own freelancer groups?  I’m so proud of AWC Austin for leading the way.
