It’s been 15 years since AWC Austin honored me with its Outstanding Communicator Award. To this day, it’s one of my proudest professional accomplishments. As a journalist, it’s flattering to receive recognition from groups such as the Associated Press or the Lone Star Emmys. It’s even more meaningful when you are honored by your peers, the people who know you and are familiar with your work. I always think of the Austin chapter of the Association for Women in Communication as a group of women who do exactly what I do everyday — they make a living with their writing and communication skills. When I accepted the award, I invited along many of my friends and colleagues in local television. I still smile thinking back on that special day. So, I urge you to nominate a communicator in your life who you think is outstanding and deserving of this award. If they win, it will make them happy and proud for many years to come.
