Mary Anne has spent her career creating content and media as both a journalist and PR pro. She got her start in New York City promoting museums, financial institutions and luxury hotels; then landed at ABC News’ award-winning newsmagazine 20/20 working alongside the legendary Barbara Walters and her entire team. At ABC, she moved on to help produce long-form specials for John Stossel and then later produced stories at FOX Files for FNC, as well as a documentary for BRAVO. Upon her return to Texas, she became managing editor of statewide luxury lifestyle magazine Brilliant and then went on to lead the editorial vision for Austin Woman magazine for six years. Since 2011, she’s served clients on both sides of the camera or mic through her media consulting and content company MACMedia where she helps tell stories for global technology leaders, healthcare startups, academic institutions, political think tanks, authors, filmmakers, musicians, nonprofit organizations and international conferences. When she’s not working with clients, she’s creating content for several projects, including @changehoweage, a site based on her years of caregiving and her latest passion project, MediaLitLab.com, a summer camp and workshop she’s developing along with a former 60 Minutes producer to teach middle schoolers media literacy and sings with Grammy-award winning Conspirare’s Symphonic Choir. She has been a WCA Mentor and volunteer since joining Freelance Austin nearly 20 years ago.

Best Mentee Fit:

Navigating rapid change, transitioning from small, family-owned company to large global corporation to solopreneurship or freelance work and back again? I’ve balanced all-of-the-above due to both personal/family obligations and market conditions as well as my own professional choices and path. I’ve managed to navigate most of these transitions well enough to learn valuable lessons about myself, my working style, talents and ideal working relationships. If you believe you are strong enough to take a leap, make a change and/or do whatever needs to be done to fuel your passion projects and support your lifestyle, talk to me! And, if you are navigating complex politics at work or managing toxic personalities, I’ll be the first to advise on how best to ensure your energy isn’t compromised. I’m also great at maintaining a healthy balance between work, family/relationships and your physical and mental health while also ensuring you have time for your creative passions.
