Why haven’t YOU nominated someone for a Banner Award? Does it seem like too much effort? You can’t think of anyone? You meant to, but just haven’t, yet? Well, it’s time to get to work. I’ve nominated, been nominated for and won Banner Awards, and I can tell you, being involved in any part of that process is incredibly rewarding.
Whether or not your nominee wins, they will know someone noticed and appreciated their work, which is a reward in itself. The personal benefit is knowing that you paid it forward in a deeply significant way. What better use of your time is there than taking 30 minutes to highlight someone else’s efforts, accomplishments and wonderfulness? If we all did that once in a while, the world would be a better place.
It feels great to be nominated. It’s wonderful to win. And, if you’re the competitive sort*, know that you win if your nominee wins based on what you wrote!
So take the time. Look around you and find someone who is doing good things – there are many awards for which you can nominate – a mentor, a public figure, or a friend. Write something from the heart. Get someone to co-nominate with you. Just make it happen. You will not regret it.
*At 15—yes, 15!–winners and counting, you’ll have to get busy to beat my record.
