By Danielle Urban, Get Smart Marketing Team Leader

AWC’s annual Get Smart Conference is designed to inspire and motivate you and make you better at what you do every day. This year’s theme is “Building a Better Toolbox: Exploring Communication Strategy, Trends and Technology”. Through four interactive breakout sessions and an inspiring luncheon keynote, we will explore the tools that are shaping the future of the communications industry and are integral for every communications professional to know. If that’s not enough to pique your interest, here are just a handful of reasons I think Get Smart 2012 is a must-attend event for any communication professional.

  1. It puts you at the top of your game – and your industry. In the rapidly changing world of communications, your strategy and tools must be constantly sharpened to stay competitive. Get Smart 2012 will help you build a better toolbox as you learn more about multi-medium strategy, maximizing SEO, analyzing ROI, strategies for online writing and techniques for mastering the client meeting.
  1. Learn from Austin’s Top Communications Leaders. Get Smart features seven of Austin’s most sought-after communication experts in interactive, educational and inspiring breakout sessions, including Elizabeth Christian, President of Elizabeth Christian & Associates, as this year’s Keynote Speaker. Conference attendees will learn some of the strategies behind their success and tips for becoming an expert in your field.
  1. Network.  Get Smart is attended by professionals from all backgrounds, experience levels and industries. The half-day conference is designed for you to interact with and get to know fellow attendees in each session. You’ll surely come away from the event having made new friends and valuable contacts.
  1. It’s Bigger and Better. AWC Austin listened to feedback from last year’s conference and made the 2012 Get Smart Conference bigger and better. Registration costs have been lowered significantly and the breakout sessions are longer, providing more time to explore each topic with follow-up Q&A.
  1. Get to Know AWC Austin.  Attending last year’s Get Smart Conference was what persuaded me to join AWC Austin.  As a first-time attendee, I was surprised by the welcoming, collaborative environment and how everyone seemed excited to be there and to learn something new. In fact, I found myself just as motivated by the women I met in each session as I was by the speakers themselves! If you’re looking for a great, well-rounded group of communications professionals to engage with, Get Smart 2012 is a great place to start.

Whether you come as a first-time attendee or a seasoned (and very Smart ) participant, I hope you’ll join me on September 21 for Get Smart 2012 at the UT Commons Learning Center on the J.J. Pickle Research Campus. Early Bird rates are $65 for members, $75 for non-members and $45 for students and are valid through Friday, August 27.
