Joyful. Earlier this month, someone asked me to describe AWC Austin’s Banner Brunch using one word, and I think “joyful” pretty much sums it up.

For me, Banner Brunch will always stand out from other networking and professional development opportunities. It’s truly a celebration—and one worth getting up on a Saturday morning to attend. Below are just a handful of reasons I think Banner Brunch is a must-attend event for any communications professional.

1. Celebration and inspiration unite. Banner Brunch is AWC Austin’s annual awards event, celebrating the achievements of some of Austin’s best, brightest and most inspiring communicators, both male and female. In addition, AWC Austin grants the Jo Caldwell Meyer Scholarship to deserving undergraduates studying communications in Central Texas; $9,000 in scholarships will be awarded at Banner Brunch 2012.

2. The who’s-who of Austin communicators come out to play. Often referred to as “homecoming” for AWC Austin members, Banner Brunch attracts approximately 200 outstanding Austin-area professionals from all communications disciplines. You’ll surely come away from the event having made new friends and valuable contacts.

3. It’s is an opportunity for reflection and exploration. Each year, Banner Brunch invites attendees to reflect upon the ever-changing field of communications in a unique way. This year’s event is themed “The Stories of Our Lives: Creating Impact Through Words, Music and Pictures.” Regardless of which facet of communications is your forte, this year’s event will offer something for you.

4. Attendees can focus on the fun. From meetings to luncheons to happy hours, our weeks often become such a whirlwind of activity that we may find ourselves thinking more about what’s happening next than what’s happening now. Set for 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, Banner Brunch removes itself from the weekday hustle, allowing attendees to arrive refreshed, relaxed and ready to kick off their weekend in both a fun and meaningful way.

5. Did I mention we’re having brunch? Banner Brunch is a wonderful excuse to dress up and dine with a welcoming and remarkable group of individuals. Though not required, many attendees wear bright colors and decorative wide-brim hats to celebrate Banner Brunch and the spring season in a festive way; everyone wears a smile.

Tickets for the 39th Annual Banner Brunch are now on sale, and those who register before March 19 are eligible to win a pair of tickets to “An Evening with Martin Short” at Paramount Theatre on Friday, March 23, at 8:00 p.m., along with a parking pass.

Whether you come as a first-time attendee or a seasoned participant, I hope you’ll join me at Banner Brunch. There’s a mimosa with your name on it!
