Don’t blink, you might miss it. That’s exactly how I felt after the speed networking luncheon! Not one to show up late, albeit fashionably late, I arrived promptly at 11:30 a.m. as this was my first chance to mingle with the members of AWC Austin—I joined at the end of November.
Upon my arrival I was greeted with an organized welcome table and shown my table number to begin my first round of networking. The room was quite bare at the time, I think only a handful of women, but I was anxious to begin right away. I met a few new faces and then BAM!—it was 11:45 and time for us to take our respective seats and begin the ‘speed networking’ portion of our time. We (there were 10 to a table) were given 20 minutes to enjoy our delicious meal and introduce ourselves. 20 minutes sounds like it would be an okay amount of time, but it went by so fast. I just barely swallowed my last bite and then BAM!—on to the next round, which was more of the same, just a different table. There was little time to interact or converse off the topic, and luckily for our table, our board member (Shout out to Julie!) kept us on task so we were at least able to make quick introductions.
I was introduced to at least 20 new faces that I might not have met if it weren’t for the speed networking luncheon. I travel to and from Dallas every other week for work right now, but I’m searching for a Public Relations job in Austin. I know I found the right organization to guide me along the way.
