You might consider joining a professional organization. Or, you might not. Well, we asked our members on Facebook and Twitter, and they shared their reasons for not only being a member of AWC Austin, but also volunteering and attending events. Member Liz Carmack said, “Being a solo-entrepreneur, particularly a writer, can be pretty isolating sometimes. I’m a member because AWC Austin offers valuable programming on a variety of communications topics that I should stay informed about. It also connects me to an incredibly diverse group of professional communicators. I always know I have a network of savvy, generous women who’ve “got my back” whenever I need support or advice. I have learned so much from working side-by-side with them on the board and on various AWC projects. Knowing I had this professional network also helped give me the confidence to step out of an office cubical and start my own business five years ago.”
