Stephanie Klein, the closing keynote speaker for this year’s Destination Get Smart 2010: Your Journey Begins Here conference, can claim several successful career titles: blogger, novelist, photographer, screenwriter, mother … and the list goes on. The magnetic appeal of her blog, Greek Tragedy, has grown a loyal following of thousands. Its popularity is a testament to her fearless, no-holds-barred writing. In addition to Greek Tragedy, she has authored two memoirs, Straight Up and Dirty, which is being adapted into a sitcom for ABC Studios, and MOOSE: A Memoir, which ignited a new career in screenwriting. She is currently translating MOOSE into a screenplay with a Hollywood production studio. Needless to say, she’s been busy, but none of this took place over night.

Her professional journey began in advertising. Although she dreamed of becoming a writer since the fourth grade, following college graduation, she entered the world of advertising and remained there for nearly a decade. While Stephanie says she liked her job, she “didn’t see it as a career.” The realization spurred her to pursue another passion – photography. After taking evening classes in the art, she eventually found herself shooting at premieres and galas. Today, you can see her work hanging in the suites of New York City’s The Hotel Gansevoort. In 2005, a year after she launched Greek Tragedy, Klein left advertising to pursue fulltime her childhood dream of writing. So began her new journey.

Stephanie Klein took a fearless jump, melding her personal passions into a successful career path.

AWC Austin is excited to host the adventurous Stephanie Klein on October 21st, where she will share her journeys and the successes and labors along the way.
