Conventional wisdom says that an economic downturn is the perfect business environment in which to start a business. Indeed, many of today’s most successful and innovative companies were launched during times of economic stress: MTV, Microsoft, McDonald’s, FedEx, and General Motors to name a few.
So what’s your dream? And what’s stopping you from turning it into reality? Chances are you can’t get past the voices in your head – you know, the ones telling you all the reasons yours is a bad idea and why it will never work.
Our September guests know those voices all too well, but as successful entrepreneurs they have learned to tame and conquer their fears and even use them to fuel their success. Hear about their experiences: how did each embark on her personal entrepreneurial journey; how does she overcome or deal with fear and uncertainty; what did she learn about herself in the process; and specific nuts-and-bolts advice for attendees.
Join us on September 15 to hear from three fearless trailblazers with moderation from Anne Lasseigne Tiedt, Principal at Momentum PR.
Panelists for the luncheon are:
Patti DeNucci – Owner, DeNucci & Co.
Melinda Garvey – Publisher, austinwoman Magazine
Lorie Marrero – CEO, Clutter Diet, Inc.

To get their creative juices flowing, we asked our panelists this question:
What do you do in the morning to prepare yourself for the day?
Melinda Garvey
In order to prepare for my day, in the morning, I try to take a long power walk with a friend several times a week to get the physical juices flowing and I spend the rest of the morning before I leave for work, hugging, kissing and talking to my 3-year-old, Beck.
There is nothing more inspiring than his laughter.
Patti DeNucci
First, and without fail, I make myself a big cup of coffee. If my husband hasn’t already left for the day, we have breakfast together and scan the newspaper. I also admit that I play a round or two of Words with Friends on my iPhone.
I tend to some of the domestic duties of the day, such as feeding and walking the dog, tidying up, getting some laundry started, and making the bed. Those things may sound like drudgery to some people, but they help me get organized and grounded. They are like little rituals for me and remind me of all the blessings in my life.
When I am facing a very exciting or potentially stressful day, I read something inspirational or journal. That is tremendously powerful. I really should do that every day.
And always there is email and Twitter to check on. It’s so easy to get pulled into that so I try to limit my time there.
I am blessed that no two days are ever alike and I don’t expect them to be or try to make them so. Such is the solopreneur’s life!
Lorie Marrero
Morning time is “Me Time.” I exercise, take my vitamins, and most of all, hydrate with lots of water and green tea. If I am not well, I can’t achieve anything or help anyone! The beginning of my work day has everything to do with preparing the night before. I walk in my office knowing what my top priorities are for the day.
