by Dara Quackenbush, VP of Membership Recruitment

When I joined AWC, it was on the recommendation of Diana Hyland and Stacey Lawson. I knew I should be networking more and both ladies said AWC Austin was THE BEST organization in town for communicators. I trusted their recommendations so much, I joined AWC without attending an event.

While most of you probably didn’t join sight unseen, you probably did join, or at least attend an AWC Austin event, on the recommendation of a friend or colleague. Word of mouth is important, especially when it comes to joining an organization. After all, how can you really know about an organization by just attending a luncheon?

Now is a perfect time to refer a friend to AWC Austin. From now until Nov. 30, 2010, both the national and local application fees are waived. That means your referrals will save $60. But there’s something in it for you as well – the member who refers the most new members nationally, will win a Flip camera; second place is a Blu Ray player. For more details on the contest, see the MyAWC section at www.womcom.org.

We’d like to hear how/why you joined AWC Austin. Please leave your story in the comments section.
