This year I will...

This year, I will…

The new year has begun and it’s time to set some goals! We asked our fearless WCA leaders to share with us their resolutions for 2015. Some are professional, some are personal, all are inspirational. See for yourself:

Project-Declutter-Hooked-on-Decorating

Lisa Maxwell, President:
My new year’s resolution is to work on decluttering, purging and organizing stuff – both physical and electronic.

You passed

Lisa Elmore, President-Elect:
To study & sit for my PMP exam – and pass!

Julie Lara, Treasurer:
I’m going to expect less of myself in 2015. I’m an over-achiever and often feel stress because my expectations for myself are often unrealistic. My hope is this will help me feel more ‘present’ in every moment of each day.

more talkMargaret Barry, VP of Development:
My new year’s resolution is “talk more; text less.” I am not a big phone talker; I’d rather spend quality time catching up — face-to-face — with family and friends. But for keeping in touch with loved ones outside of Austin, too often I rely upon Facebook, email and text messaging. Social media is a blessing and a curse. “Face time” is more important than Facebook time. So for 2015, I’m going to try to “talk more; text less.”

care for self

Ginny Murphy, VP of Freelance Programming
My New Year’s Resolution is to find the time for the personal health activities I tend to put to the side (exercise and meditation specifically).

self-confidence-300x242Karen Aroian, VP of Student Programming
I have learned a lot about my value as a writer and editor this year. For the first time in three years as a solopreneur, I went up on my rates, and none of my clients blinked. WCA helped me gain the confidence to reach my goals in 2014. In the new year ahead, I hope to double my business, develop a marketing strategy, and expand my skill sets.

go for itMaria Cammack, VP of Communications:
My New Year’s resolution is to be more persistent in asking for (and going for) what I want, need and deserve – both in my career and on a personal level. I am looking forward to seeing what challenges and opportunities 2015 will bring!

plan aheadLauren Appa, VP of Membership
I tend to put off marketing myself and/or actively pursuing new clients, usually because most of my business is referrals and I also because I get busy with project work. One of my career resolutions for 2015 is to be more mindful of my monthly revenue targets and my marketing. I’ll set calendar reminders to analyze where I am financially at the end of each month and forecast what to expect in the month ahead. This will also be a time to follow up with existing clients I haven’t made contact with recently and reach out to potential new clients.

work life balanceEva Gonzales, Secretary
My resolution is to have a better life-work balance. I would love to attend more design events and art shows. Maybe even create some art of my own.

Now let the work begin! As WCA members, we have a wealth of resources at our fingertips. Don’t hesitate to reach out to fellow members for inspiration and guidance!

What are your new year’s resolutions? Please share in the comments.
