The Office of the Vice President for Research, Scholarship, and Creative Endeavors seeks to hire a Communications Manager to identify, plan, and implement communications and marketing activities in support of Research Development. In coordination with other departments, the Communications Manager will develop and execute a variety of compelling and engaging communications content to convey the OVPR’s research impact to internal and external audiences. This position will report to the Research Communications Director and will work closely with Research Development leadership.

Develop and manage communications projects and processes from initial conception to completion and maintain an editorial calendar. In collaboration with the Research Development team, create and execute communications strategies and plans to improve awareness of and increase engagement with interdisciplinary research activities. Use benchmarking, research, and analytics to inform the development of short- and long-term communications activities, including email marketing, social media engagement, website development, internal communications, publications, and additional tactics, as appropriate. Develop and execute strategies to promote content across platforms, drive web traffic, and increase followers and engagement on social media networks.

Create and edit written content for print and digital channels that adheres to brand standards, personality, and tone of programs. Engage with researchers to learn about their expertise and translate that into compelling stories for websites, blog posts, social media, reports, and video. Act as editorial director for the Bridging Barriers website, newsletters, fact sheets, background one-pagers, correspondence and other communications needs that this role identifies. Coordinate activities of supporting departments and/or outside vendors in the development and maintenance of these communications assets.

Collaborate with communications colleagues in OVPR and departments across campus to pitch stories, disseminate original content and identify opportunities to amplify important interdisciplinary research milestones. Participate in OVPR Communications team meetings and maintain effective communication with Research Communications Director and project teams.

Build and maintain strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in interdisciplinary research in higher education, and identify opportunities for UT research thought leaders. Contribute to the overall success of the Research Development and OVPR by performing other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree with three (3) years experience in marketing, communications, or public relations.

Demonstrated expertise in creating strategic and effective messaging for a variety of audiences.

Professional experience developing content, writing and editing content.

Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills and fluency in AP style.

Experience with Microsoft Office products, Adobe Creative Suite, content management systems, and MailChimp or other email marketing platform.

Experience and familiarity with social media platforms.

Ability to quickly understand complex issues and distill them into intriguing and understandable narratives.

Experience maintaining brand and style standards and guidelines.

Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize and manage complex and multiple tasks, and work independently and on a team.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
More than three (3) years experience in marketing, communications or public relations.

Experience working in higher education environments.

Experience using video, graphics and photo editing software (Premiere, Canva, Final Cut, iMovie, Photoshop, YouTube studio, or similar).

Knowledge of publication layout and printing requirements.

Salary Range
$80,000 + depending on qualifications
