How Do You Take Your Coffee – Inspired?

‘Careers Over Coffee’ provides an ideal atmosphere to enjoy a cup of morning Jo, and connect with other members of Women Communicators of Austin (WCA) about professional changes, past and present. With two locations (North and South), the WCA Careers Over Coffee (COC) is a beneficial resource to all members.

Michele Chen Santos and Christy Wylie lead Careers Over Coffee South and we caught up with them to learn a little more about this monthly member event. “[COC] is a relaxed and informal gathering where we talk about career topics, life balance and other challenges facing communicators today.” Explains Michele Chen Santos, freelance reporter, “We always have a discussion topic announced ahead of time; we sometimes have a speaker; and in general it has a very supportive and encouraging atmosphere.”

As a more intimate discussion forum, COC provides a setting for communicators of various walks of life to share their experiences and insights as it relates to the session topic. Writers, voice artists, and teachers come together and share ideas. Guest speakers often attend to sprinkle some professional development before everyone heads off to work.

Christy Wylie, Mantra Marketing, says “COC is a safe and supportive environment where freelancers and employees can talk about career challenges and transitions, as well as make great industry contacts.”

Individuals and business grow through sharing ideas and experiences, and the WCA Careers Over Coffee provides various professionals the chance to enjoy breakfast, coffee (or tea), good company, and learn from other communicators of Austin. It is small, informative, and highly enriching for professionals and communicators of all walks of life.

Careers Over Coffee North meets the first Friday of each month at Mimi’s Cafe at Arbor Walk from 8 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.

Careers Over Coffee South meets the last Thursday of each month at Panera Bread at 4625 West William Cannon Road from 8 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
