Why Banner Brunch is an Event You Don’t Want to Miss

Women Communicators of Austin is getting ready for our 42nd annual Banner Brunch and we are getting really excited.

If you have never attended Banner Brunch before, here are some more details and reasons why this is one event you don’t want to miss.

Banner Brunch is the time of year where WCA comes together to recognize the best and the brightest local communicators, creatives, leaders and mentors. It is also an opportunity for WCA to award scholarships to the future communicators from universities in Central Texas.

WCA members and non-members are encouraged to submit nominations for the Banner Brunch awards. A committee, consisting of the President-Elect, two WCA members at large, two Past WCA Presidents and two former award winners reviews all the nominations and scores them to ultimately select the winners. Banner Brunch awards nominations are accepted through March 4, 2015.

Students from Central Texas universities are encouraged to apply for the Jo Caldwell Meyer Scholarship Fund. WCA established its Jo Caldwell Meyer scholarship fund in 1989 and has since supported more than 30 Central Texas students with more than $45,000 in aid for college tuition, books and other academic needs. This year we are awarding two $3,000 scholarships.

Here are just a few reasons why you should attend:

1. You will have a blast, we promise!
It is always a fun event, full of laughing, a bit of crying and lots of connecting. It is a great chance to debut that fabulous spring dress and hats are always popular.

2. It’s a great chance to mingle with old and new friends
Banner Brunch typically starts with networking; a chance to catch up with old friends and meet new ones while enjoying a mimosa or two.

3. Get your hands on cool auction items
This is also your chance to score some amazing items during our silent auction. Past years’ auction items have included everything from photography sessions, spa packages and jewelry to gift baskets and fun getaways.

4. Enjoy great food and drinks
Once the silent auction closes, you sit down to eat and drink with your friends and honor the award and scholarship winners while also listening to the keynote speakers share their story with us.

5. You get to give back
Funds from Banner Brunch and from our silent auction help support our scholarship fund and WCA programs.

Banner Brunch is for everyone; WCA Members and supporters, friends and family of the honorees and anyone else interested in the movers and shakers of the Austin communications industry.

Don’t be afraid if you don’t know anyone at the event, just ask for WCA President, Lisa Maxwell or President-Elect, Lisa Elmore, and they will be happy to show you around.
